As with the release of PQ I can't open the launcher. For some stupid reason when I try and launch it it would suddenly open for a few seconds then quit, then open again, and then loops. Honestly I'm not sure if it's because of my OS or something the developed team has fucked up.

Made an account to confirm this (I'm on the latest Mac 10.12). Tried before and after deleting other downloaded MBP/MBG and still no dice. Launcher downloaded PQ stuff for ~10-20 min (checked console), then seemed like it was finishing up and crashed. Restarting and trying again leads to a quick crash. Clicking "open game directory" opens a PQ directory with package contents that can't be ran as an application.

For the record, I had no problems running MBP and I have admin privileges on my computer.
Thanks for the ton of work you guys put in to make this mod possible!

I have the same problem. At first, the launcher would just open, then close. Then open, close, open, close, etc. Eventually, I found out it had to be in the "Downloads" section on my mac for it to open, next to the zip file. So, I clicked play and...

So... how can I get it to run?

I've been talking with a few people and found this is because the launcher doesn't mark the game files as executable. I've pushed a newer version of the launcher that attempts to fix this.

PQ in a nutshell
function clientcmd12dothepq() {
    commandToClient(LocalClientConnection, '34onthedancefloor');
}

The launcher works for me but it doesn't automatically launch the game after it's finished downloading, I have to go to /home/Applications and open PlatinumQuest manually. (Also the icon for PQ still says Demo.)

I've had the similar issue on my mac with macOS 10.12.5 except when I tried to open PQ after the launcher finished downloading the game and didn't launch it automatically, it said that the application cannot be opened.

Awesome Hint:

Since the Awesome Time/Score is secret, you will have to beat it in order to find out what it is. Just practice every day, and be ready to keep pressing the 'Restart' button...A LOT!

I tried that method and it still crashed. Basicly this is what it looks like?

I deleted the launcher and re-downloaded it and it works!

EDIT: Never mind, it downloads but doesn't play in the launcher or in the app.

Fully registered my account just to chime in here, but I haven't gotten this to work at all either. The launcher quits on its own prematurely and I'm left with a broken, incomplete application that my computer simply will not open.

hiGuy, you claimed you pushed an update for the Mac launcher, but it appears it's still the same version as when the website first came back online.

I'm honestly disappointed that I still can't play PQ for Mac OS. Honestly if this isn't fixed then I might as well quit. I've done this MBP years ago when it didn't work for my Mac. Sigh

We're sorry that you feel this way. Please hang in there while we work out all of the problems that people are having. We did not test the Mac launcher as much as we should have, but we are doing our best to fix it.

Cut the devs some slack lol. Bugs are bound to crop up on the initial release of a product.

I'm not sure if the update to the launcher was pushed that fixed it, but the issue for me was that the executable bits weren't set on the binaries downloaded by the pq launcher. Go into ~/Applications/PlatinumQuest and chmod +x the frameworks and binaries in /Contents/macos. That will get them working.

This is the main issue I'm seeing. The root cause seems to be that our new build server doesn't mark the files as executable before uploading them to the live site. This should be fixed with releases after 2.0.2. I pushed a launcher fix yesterday that attempts to chmod the executables, apparently with mixed success.

So to be clear, here the files I need to "chmod +x" on are:
under PlatinumQuest/Contents/Frameworks
  • Ogg.framework
  • OpeanAL.framework
  • Vorbis.framework
under PlatinumQuest/Contents/MacOS
  • MBExtender
  • MarbleBlast Gold

and I do the following command for each of those files:
"chmod +x /the/path/to/the/file" (without the quotes)

For the frameworks note that each framework is actually a bundle (similar to how apps are packaged on osx) that you can right click > show contents on. Inside there you will find the actual binary that needs to be chmod-ed (I think the structure inside the framework is like /versions/latest but I don't recall precisely).

Alright, pushed yet another Mac launcher. Hopefully this one can actually chmod the files. If not then I'll keep trying. Let me know.

The application doesn't have an icon (which I can just copypaste from the launcher) but it looks like it finally works, at least for me.

After 2.0.4 it should get an icon. If anyone has launcher issues though please let me know.

Same problem here.

The app does have an icon.
Fix plz?

I'm just a 15 year old who's been playing MB for over a decade and can be annoying at times.

Try deleting PlatinumQuest and then try the updater again.

In all honesty guys I don't think theres a point in coming back to MB. Since PlatinumQuest doesn't seem to work I don't think theres a point in coming back. Plus every time I try my internet cuts out. I'm sorry folks
