Dang, you posted before I got a chance!

Even if they may appear to work, they will not work properly without the patch in place.

Power Packs 4 and 5 have been released, featuring MBPU ports of all of the Marble Blast Xbox exclusive levels (they've since appeared in MBU, MBO, MBP, but these are the originals).

I've tried to install the power pack patch, but it crashed every time I clicked "Play". The epic play button troll  can anyone help me?

Where is the file located?

[strike]EDIT: How do I install the Power Patch? Do I just get a clean install of MBPU and copy the Power Patch files over?[/strike]

EDIT #2: I just figured out I was using the wrong version of MBPU. Wow, silly me!

CheepFishMBP wrote: Hi, sorry for the bump, but when I installed MBPU, the exe file is malware. I hope this will be fixed.

We've investigated and determined that this is a false positive. The launcher executable, MarbleBlastPoweredUp.exe, is flagged as a Trojan by Kaspersky. This is probably because it provides a way for arbitrary executables to be launched via TCP. However, the program has checks to ensure that this does not result in serious vulnerabilities. To be safe, I recommend that you take the following precautions:
  1. When MBPU launches, Windows will ask if you want to give it network access. Do not give it access to any networks. The code uses network APIs but doesn't need to be let through the firewall--and, in fact, letting it through can theoretically introduce a vulnerability under very specific circumstances.
  2. Never place any suspicious executable in your MBPU directory or any subdirectory, or anything that isn't Marble Blast-specific. The launcher can only access executables in your game directory, but it can theoretically launch any program in there, without warning, if given instruction to do so.

If you cannot allow the program through Kaspersky, simply copy bin/torqueapp.exe into the game root directory and launch it to play MBPU instead. You'll be unable to use vibration or play Sandbox level 25, but otherwise the game should function normally.

I'm not sure what you mean by this, but you're probably going about it the wrong way. To install the Power Patch, you should start with an existing installation of MBPU 1.5, copying it to back it up if you want, and then merge the Power Patch files into the existing MBPU directory. That is, you add the Power Patch files into MBPU, not the other way around.

Can you provide screenshots, videos, steps to reproduce, and/or a console.log? You're still being way too vague.

Hey, everyone! Don't get too excited--I'm not adding on to MBPU or anything like that.

I've been annoyed at how some of my favorite songs from the MBPU soundtrack are in Power Pack 1 and thus not on the soundtrack. So I've compiled MP3's of them as an add-on to the soundtrack! Check the first post for a download link.

Yes, I know your project doesn't have a virus. However, Avast is annoying me about it by not letting me open it because is has a "virus". :(

How do I fix this?

I didn't notice this post until months later, so I'm sorry if you've been waiting to play MBPU this whole time!

For posterity's sake, these might be helpful:

www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB168
forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=38833.0

In general, you'll want to search for how to add "exceptions" in your antivirus software of choice.

Hey everyone, I've asked Derp, and apparently this is nowhere near the longest bump ever seen on the forums. Oh well. Anyway, I just wanted to point out that I actually just added a new feature to MBPU. It's really, really minor, but there's now a "Night Mode" option in the Misc tab of the Options menu. It makes any level that had the normal daytime sky have the night sky (and moonlight) from Grander Finale instead. Reinstall the Power Patch if you want to check it out.

MBPU v1.6 is out!

After five years, it's time for another update to this old mod! Don't expect much in the way of new content, at least not right now; this update is mostly to make the game look and sound smoother. Improvements include:
  • Upscaled textures: The game's textures have been made smoother by an AI algorithm, making the game look clearer than ever.
  • Shader effects: For those of you with good video cards, antialiasing, soft shadows, and marble reflections have been added to the game to give it more visual fidelity.
  • Better sounds: MBPU now uses the FMOD sound library for its audio, which has better spatial effects and is less prone to glitches.
  • General touch-ups: A few other small features have been fixed and improved. For instance, challenges that forbid touching a specific color should work much better now thanks to engine updates.

There are sadly a few features I've had to remove with this update, due to the removal of the "external plugins" system, which has some negative effects on the game (causing it to be picked up by antivirus scanners among other issues):
  • macOS and Linux are no longer natively supported. It's impossible to natively support the newer versions of macOS anyway due to decisions by Apple. For macOS and Linux users, I recommend installing WINE, or Wineskin if you're using macOS 10.15 or later, which have generally worked well for people.
  • Controller vibration is no longer supported.
  • Simulacrum has been replaced with an "under renovation" version. It is likely that this will in turn be replaced with a better version in the future.

One last note: if you're getting a lot of lag in the game, try setting $pref::Video::NoShaders = 1; in the console, and then restart MBPU. This will disable the shader effects, but it should result in much faster performance.

Have fun, and be sure to let me know if you have any comments or questions!

(First off apologies for bumping.)

Ladies and gentlemen, I just made a new installer for MBPU 1.6 (the newest release from June of this year). Download it here, and enjoy the convenience of playing it right from your desktop & the Start menu (with Uninstall support), just like you did with 1.5: www.mediafire.com/file/47gztqmgiht16qq/MBPU1_61.zip/file

UPDATE: The runtime error crashes are caused by the FMOD sound plugin for high quality sound. This thing is after all broken, and should be addressed.

I'm sorry to bump this, but I ran into a bug concerning the challenge, "Pipe Dreams: Groundhog Day Edition". The game fails you on this challenge if you don't complete the down-up-down route within 45 seconds. In previous releases of this game, this wasn't an issue: you would pass the challenge just by completing the route regardless of the time. Now, if you don't complete the challenge within 45 seconds, it says, "You failed to qualify!" This makes the challenge nearly impossible.

If there's a bug, YO! I'll report it!
