Sometimes I forget how much of a vibe this game can be. Whoever did the art style doesn't get enough credit, despite the era it was made in, it still holds up today.

And somehow they got it to run very well in a browser in 2009, beautiful graphics and all. I wonder if anyone knows how they did that.

The trick is they didn't, it was actually a separate exe that ran on your machine, and was just displayed on your browser instead of the browser itself doing all the computation.

No way, I never knew that! That explains so much.
Since I never played the Xbox version of MBU, my first experience with the MBU aesthetic was MBP 1.60, and I didn't like going back after that (although I often had to return to flat textures for better performance). Everything done in PQ since to make MBU look closer and closer to the original is very nice to see, even if I'm not a diehard MBU fan.
But the Haxe port looks even better.

Why am I always the last guy to know about these things?

I was just about to correct you on the MBP version cause I thought it stopped at 1.50, but after checking the old archive, I found out that there WAS a 1.60.Since I never played the Xbox version of MBU, my first experience with the MBU aesthetic was MBP 1.60, and I didn't like going back after that (although I often had to return to flat textures for better performance).

There was even a 1.70! And a 1.71, 1.72, ... , 1.79, 1.7.10, ... , 1.7.42. Now you're the last guy to know about the 1.70 series. I don't think it made any improvements to MBU though. Those all came in PQ.

Uhh nah those don't count, there was no MBP 1.70, not in my world. There was even a 1.70! And a 1.71, 1.72, ... , 1.79, 1.7.10, ... , 1.7.42. Now you're the last guy to know about the 1.70 series. I don't think it made any improvements to MBU though. Those all came in PQ.
