How do you study? was created by Kalle29
One of the things that many people know about me is that I study very little. I always wait way too long on the occasions I actually do study; many times I don't do it at all.

For the past weeks I've been planning on studying for a test that happened earlier today (12th), wanting to start in a reasonable time for once. I started at around 19:00 (CET) on the 10th. It was by far the longest study session I have ever had; my previous record was at around 3 hours. After a bit more than 25 hours of memorizing the content of two books (you are given 3 months to do this btw) and several emails/phone calls with my teacher I decided to take a short nap. I woke up at around midnight and kept on studying though the whole night, then I went to the test. It took less than half an hour to finish; and now I'm here, contemplating my life desicions.

So how do you guys study?

I generally know most or all of the material already, because once we learn it in class, I remember it. That being said, I don't usually study at all, but I still end up getting good grades (in the 90s). Just a studying tip: Cramming doesn't really help. It's better to get enough sleep the night before an exam than to stay up all night studying, because whilst you sleep, your brain transfers the information you took in to your long-term memory so that you can recall it easier the next day. Definitely (if you are the type of person who studies) study early. Do a bit every night, because then it will be easier on you and you will have a better ability to recall the information and thus you will get a good grade on an exam.

Well this was a unique type of test, I knew that I didn't have enough knowledge to pass, so I kinda had to panic study for this one.

once we learn it in class, I remember it.

I am very much the same, which is why I have managed to go through school this long without properly studying. Though there have been a few tests that I did properly study for, days in advance even (see: when the smart kid in my previous class got too cocky so I went ham at a physics test and got the best result in class).

A trick is to study, or at least read your notes, right before you go to sleep. The brain has a tendency to remember things that happened right before you fell asleep more easily.

Up until this year, my grades haven't actually mattered. There are ways around bad grades in all instances of our education system (that I have used extensively), right up until you reach university. So, even though my grades have generally been very good, if I got a terrible score on a test I just didn't care - because it didn't matter. I guess that kinda formed me into who I am today, at least partially. (blaming the schools for my poor studying)

Haha, totally see you doing that, yeah.

I always procrastinated as long as possible hoping for it to disappear, which sometimes worked, other times not so much. Always could get away with things more easily because of the lack of communication between the school and the conservatory, which I happily took advantage of.

I've never really had to learn , which always was a good thing till you realize you haven't actually learned hów to learn..

Learning the best way to study is actualy something we were taught over here. Over the course of what kinda is our equivalent to American high school, the teachers were actively trying to get us to study better. We even had to sit and listen to a professor in the lecture hall very early the first year.

Also just found out that I passed the test with a margin of 1.5p

Wow, well done! I just took a test today on Algebra II without studying at all, so we'll see how I did.

Doing questions from past papers helps me when I'm studying Maths! I have lots of prelims on the way soon but I study a lot, so I should be fine. Also, for general exams you should create a study schedule. That way you can revise effectively.

In a course like math, I make sure I fully understand every concept as we're learning it (or maybe within a week of learning it in class). Then when exams come around I've already learned all the course material at some point during the term, so it's just a matter of refreshing and remembering how to solve and apply every concept learned during the year.

When I don't study hard for a test, I have bad marks. And when I study the hardest I can, I have worse marks! This is an illogical issue I had before in my scolarity and I still have this trouble nowadays.

Which means, for example, I can spend 4 hours to determinate a limit, find an asymptote, calculate a derived function or its primitive! That's partly because I suck at math too (well, theory has been my enemy for too long, and still is)

You forget a thousand things everyday. Make sure Marble Blast isn't one of 'em.

I don't study because I find I can remember information that we learn in class with ease, even in classes like science (My average in Biology is 97 with no studying, even on the midterm). In addition, I find that I perform better when I am relaxed from an evening of video games than stressed out from an evening of studying.

System.out.println("Hello");

I only look over notes and stuff about 15 minutes before I take a test. Works every time :)

Midterms are nearly upon us Americans who go to public schools. I plan to not study at all. I will communicate the results in this thread, if that is okay.

I don't really study, I just pay attention in class (probably will hurt me in college)

The only time I study is for 15 minutes at midnight when I realize I don't know something ;p

(also since when is pokko still here :O)
