Dear all,

I have only really dabbled in level-making, and so there's nothing here to upload yet. I chose to replace the first post I had with a link to a level of this message, as it's not a great level, and I'd rather start over. Soo.. watch this space!

First level [IN PROGRESS] - Mismatched

Hello all,

It's obviously been a while since I've been even dabbling in level-making! I've pulled something out of my stash of unfinished levels and did a bit of work on it (not completed it). I'm going to call it 'Mismatched' due to the way I've set up the weird hash-like blocks. Only problem - I'm really unsure as to whether to make it a single player or multiplayer (gem hunt) level. Any thoughts?

Thanks :)

Did you get inspiration from toys for kids? Because there's a type of toy shaped like that and you attach them together to make machines (played them when I was a kid lol).

Excited to see how it'll come out :D

Also, how about singleplayer AND multiplayer?

lee is awesome

Yeah, I remember these particular types of blocks we had at school which were criss-crossy but I can't find them anywhere online to show what they look like!! Lol. Yeah, the isolated blocks kind of fit in with the toy theme in a way.

Ok, will do SP, and considering Frosty's MP experience, I probably won't do MP unless I can get it to work well. Or maybe a bigger version of this sort of level?

maybe if you keep it all on one floor without any gravity it would work in mp imo ; atm its basically battlecube; i.e if it spawns on ur side u win

Yeah, I see what you mean. I had planned to be able to do both sides of each face, but maybe that doesn't change the gameplay *that* much.

On a similar note, how do you add gem groups in the editor?/How do you make the levels multiplayer rather than singleplayer?

place red, yellow and blue gems respectively

in the .mis add a new line in the mission info (by goldtime and such):

gameMode = "hunt";

Ah cool, thank you

EDIT: Really wanted to try and find this in another forum post somewhere, but my interior is greyed out. I also tried exporting the .map using Constructor JUST to get the textures, and so I put them in the right folder (platinum->data->interiors), and MPMap2Dif'ed the .map and put that in the same folder as well. Can't remember how to fix the greyness. Could someone help/point me to a thread? Thanks

Not entirely sure what you mean by "grayed out", but if you mean that it shows up white or gray in-game, that would be caused by textures that are either missing or not able to be loaded. Maybe check in the console for errors? If you try loading the interior then closing the game and going to the game's root directory, there will be a console.log file. You can search for the texture names in there if you don't want to scroll around in the console in-game.

Okay, I've slightly abandoned the Mismatched level, it's a bit boring. What I've diverted my attention to now is a PQ multiplayer map called 'Bird.' The original idea was to make a bird shape in the middle of the level, but it's proven too difficult, so the level follows the name in a slightly abstract vein. Here it is so far:

Any thoughts or suggestions?

EDIT: Do note there's not a hole in the middle, if you look closely you'll see it's a cylindrical depression 2 tiles deep.
