I have an iMac G5 with a PowerPC G5 processor. I have only been able to acquire Marble Blast Platinum 1.50 Beta 3. Is there any way I can update this version and will support be coming for PowerPC processors?

Unfortunately, I believe not. It has something to do with how the whole extender system works. Since it injects code directly into the engine using a (mostly) custom-coded program, it's unlikely that it will work on both platforms. In addition, the launcher requires Java 7, while PowerPC only supports Java 5, and (experimentally) Java 6. While not mandatory for playing the game, you would have to directly download the packages from the web servers and unpack them yourself. Painful to do, especially if it's not automated by that such as a script.

I do not know if there are any plans to add your system at this time. I am assuming that it is infeasible or impossible to do without major, major, work. Someone like HiGuy should be able to give you the specifics (or perhaps Jeff H. or amd).

Edit: MBExtender has only been compiled for i386 (Intel). The MarbleBlast Gold binary has both architectures (i386 and ppc), which is why it has worked until now.

DoubleEdit: Quoted from a news post regarding OSX 10.6 support, by Jeff:
"Looking into the future, I might try to add Intel Mac OS X 10.5.8 support if time permits, as well as a possibility of a PowerPC version. No guarantees; however, quite a bit of code would have to be rewritten as there are some dependencies on the Snow Leopard version of Mac OS X."

Additionally, he has expressed the possibility of porting it to the G4/G5 here: www.marbleblast.com/index.php/forum/gene...n/7808-powerpc-users

Hey there,

I am considering "upgrading" (if you will) the marble blast version to extend the life support for PowerPC G5 processors (I have a Dual core G5 myself). Please take some time to comment on my thread. In that thread, would you please post your specs too as MBP takes a lot more power to run than what MBG had done (any G5 should run it, but I just want to make sure).

Thanks!

Ps. If I happen to get enough support, I will consider spending time porting the codebase to PPC 32bit.

o_O Tiger. Hmm. well it's powerful enough to run mbp, that's good. It's a matter of actually porting the code.

Not unless we decide to support PPC. and chances are we are not going to, because I found out a couple of weeks ago that the extender has been redone, which makes it like 100X harder to even backport. If we were still using the old one, maybe. So, chances are unfortunatly, PPC has like a 0.1% chance of happening.

PowerPC is unfortunately a dying platform. Apple has stopped selling Power based computers since 2006. While it would be nice to support it, theres a lot of code that would need ported, and I simply don't have the time.
