2026 Summer Premier Gem Hunt Tournament

New summer, and another tournament. 2026 Summer Premier Gem Hunt Tournament, here we go! Once again, ShadowVisions and I will be your hosts as we enter a new tournament format. This year, there will be a Contender and an Open division for the Swiss Rounds, meaning that you play matches of similar skill level, unlike previous tournaments. Players of every skill level are welcome to join. Like every year, your participation will create a more positive experience for everyone, especially those who have a similar skill level, so highly encourage those people who are not confident in themselves.

Quick note, there will be an Asian dedicated server available if someone from Asia participates, so you guys are covered
Update: As an Asian has signed up, there will be a Singapore Dedicated Server by the time the tournament starts.

2026 Summer Format Change

Based on the current turnout for the 2026 Summer Premier, we've decided to make the following changes to the format for the regular season in the best interest of giving everyone exciting, fair and competitive matches.

Firstly, we will be splitting the Contender Division into two: the Contender Division and the Challenger Division. The Contenders will be the 8 returning qualified players from 2025 and WWU earlier this year (ShadowVisions, Frostfire, bobirika, Jean, Eguy, Icarus, Connie, Turk). The Challengers will be the top 8 from the pre-seed that aren't already qualified for the Contenders, and these players will challenge the contenders in the first round of our double elimination playoffs. There is no change to the remaining players (currently 10) which will form the Open Division.

Secondly, with the reduced size of the divisions we will be optimizing the regular season format and switching from swiss to round robin for the Contender and Challenger Divisions. This means everyone will play everyone else in their division once, with one or two matches played each week. Round robin format gives us a lot of flexibility: no more guessing who your opponent will be, no more getting lucky with draws, and matches can be freely scheduled across weeks for the entire regular season. This also adds an interesting wrinkle for map selection, as players can now plan which maps they should pick against which players from the start of the season. The Open Division will still run a four week swiss, and players with a 3-1 record or better will get to compete against the worst performing players in the Challenger Division in a true play-in for the final playoff spots.

All regular season matches will still be the same: best of 5, traditional map pick style.

This reduces our double-elim draft pick playoffs to 16 players, which cuts two weeks off the runtime of the event and ensures we can finish in the summer timeframe.Let us know if you have any questions.

You can still sign up for the tournament through the pre seed period, which will start tomorrow and last two weeks. We still expect the match quality to be the best it has ever been, so join us this summer for a great experience!

The pre seed maps are Tilo, Apex, Narrows, Promontory! You have two weeks to submit your scores. You need to coordinate with someone to witness your runs in accordance with the rules. Signups are still open during this time!

**Weekly Flow**

Depending on which division you are in, you will have 1 or 2 games each week. Check the <#tourney-announcements channel or the tournament hub sheet at the start of each week to see who you're matched up with.

For each opponent, you should make a #tourney-scheduling thread pinging your opponent and attempt to find a time to play. Please try to be flexible and accommodating with your opponent, especially those in different parts of the world. If one of you isn't in the discord, attempt to schedule via webchat instead (and if you aren't in the discord, please check webchat often to schedule).

Once you and your opponent have agreed upon a time, ping ShadowVisions & Jean in the schedule thread (or chat in the webchat) and we will add your match to the official weekly schedule. This helps us ensure coverage for recording and even getting casters to cover your match!

For *contender and challenger divisions*, you may reschedule games through the last week of regular season (Week 5 for contender, Week 4 for challenger). You may also play games early if your opponent agrees and you have a planned absence later in the tournament.

For *open division*, you must play out your game with your designated opponent within the duration of the week, since future matchups depend on the result.

**Match Day**

Once your game time arrives and you, your opponent, and any designated host or recorder are ready, you may begin the match. All regular season matches follow the same format: Best of 5 (first to three wins), alternating map picks (you can pick each map **only once** during the tournament), and a randomizer round in the event of a deciding game 5.

You have two options for playing out the regular season matches.
- (Recommended) use HuntBot in your #tourney-scheduling thread to run your match using `/regseasonmatch` with two player parameters: higher seed first and lower seed second. This starts a match that manages most things for you, including server advantage, map pick, tie replays, and randomizer draft.

Once a winner is determined, the organizers will handle updating challonge and the tournament hub. Good luck and have fun!
