I've just finished the last of MBP's Advanced levels!

My last status update came when I made it to AL29. It didn't take me all that long to get through it. AL30 also proved to be easier than I expected.

AL31 actually proved a troublesome level for me, what with all its morphing madness. I got through it by using a trick to reset gravity to normal at the part with the Gravity Defiers without triggering the next stage of morphing, using a Jump Boost to bypass the part where you ascend a tower using platforms wrapped around it, and of course, a lot of practice.

AL32 was a pain in the...you know what. I mean, 3 1/2 minutes with all those challenges? Anyway, I was able to find ways to bypass some of the harder parts (though the shortcuts in their own right were difficult to nail) and--eventually--get the level done in just over 6 seconds over the Platinum Time.

AL33 was also very challenging, though made easier by the fact that there's no par time for that level. On my successful attempt, I took over 38 minutes to complete the level!

AL34 is a toughie with the Random Force. Near-continuous jumping, frequent check-ins at the checkpoints, and over 10 minutes were what I needed to finish it.

AL35 was tough at first with the 140-second time limit, but in the end, it all came down to finding the right path.

The only things standing between me and completion of MBP are the 25 Expert levels. But I'm probably going to take a bit of a break from the game. I'll still be checking out the forums on occasion, though. ;)

Grats on finishing the advanced levels :)

Sad to say though, you've only just begun, the expert levels are in a tier of their own. And when you think you've got a hang of it, the big 5 comes along to screw you over :p I wish you all luck whenever you try them.

"The Big 5" refers to which levels? The last 5?

Good job on finishing the advanced ones, Morph, Thief and Rolling to Eternity are just as hard as some of the Expert levels.

Battlecube Finale can make you freak out.

The upside is that even if you don't finish under par time, your time still gets recorded and saved. No qualifications :)

Yeah but then they don't count towards the percentage in stats. :P
Also nice job btw! I remember those last few levels. Especially Morph and Thief. They took me a while too. And I had like 19 minutes on Rolling to Eternity my first time, it was pretty difficult. Good luck with the expert levels, they're nuts. Especially, the last 5 as Kalle said.

One thing I do like is that all the levels are unlocked at the start, and you can use the Level Editor to move your marble to various spots so you can practice individual sections of each level before attempting it for real. That's useful even for someone like me who's trying to complete the levels in order, beating par times where they exist. Even though I'm trying to complete the levels in order, I'll sometimes go to future levels to practice certain parts of them if I feel they will become problem spots for me. Still, this doesn't change the fact that many levels that I think will be serious challenges actually don't live up to my expectations as far as difficulty is concerned, and levels that I dismiss as easy ones often give me a lot of trouble.

I am very close to finishing the advanced levels, I just have Morph left. On Thief, my first completion was 26:11.090, but I worked it down to 2:59 (?) within a few tries. Rolling to Eternity took me 14 minutes—yuck. Random Mayhem was pretty easy, it took me about 2 minutes. Frictional Battlecube was challenging. I finished a few seconds before the par time. Despair I got 7th on, so that was easy. But I am stuck on the gravity maze in Morph. I've only gotten past it four times. The most challenging part is the two wall-hits after the gem below the anti-recoil, and controlling my spin after the second wall-hit. I am going to view the WRR #2 for the path used there, but does anyone have any hints in case that is too hard? Thanks.
Last edit: 25 Aug 2016 02:00 by NF. Reason: Capitalized the first mention of Thief because for some DEMENTED REASON it was lowercase and what the turd was I thinking? This really is quite refreshing editing out all of these repulsive errors.

That level actually took me many fewer attempts to complete than I expected.

Oh, boy. I know what that's like, because I've been there, too. Don't fret, though, you'll get them sooner or later! ;)

Oh, memories.

Kalle29 says Big 5, but I would rather call Big 4, because the Ultimate Friction Challenge can't really match the last 4 expert levels imo. The Tale of the Tall Skyscraper, Mastering the Marble, Space Station and Battlecube Finale are the true ultimate Big 4, with Battlecube Finale being the easiest but most tedious of the 4. At any rate, these levels are so long that it takes sheer endurance to actually complete them. I remember the last of these levels that I completed was The Tale of the Tall Skyscraper.

"Big 5" is just a saying. TUFC isn't as hard yes, but it is really long, which is why it's part of the big 5.
