[CLOSED] Marble blast launcher is taking a VERY long time on my windows computer.
question 1: is Marble blast Platinum v1.50 compatible for windows 8? if not, are there any versions that are?
question 2: does it normally take a long time to load, and only for the first time or always?
I see no reason why Marble Blast Platinum (any version) would not work on Windows 8.
What do you mean by "load"? Load, as in while starting the game? Connecting to the leaderboards server (online mode)? Opening the launcher? Or do you mean for when you have just clicked to open the game?
Assuming the latter, it's because the game is downloading itself. The launcher merely does the fetching and updating. It has to download anywhere between 100 and 200 MB, so it will definitely take a while on a basic internet connection. You can view the progress by switching to the "console" view and reading the status messages.
Ideally, I'd think it'd be better if there was a clear status message in the launcher somewhere, instead of having to manually click to the console and look at the somewhat wordy messages. That's just my opinion.
In case you missed it, simply put: it will download the entire game from the server when you first run, and then download new updates occasionally when the staff release them.

The first launch of the game (as promarbler said) is used to actually download the game files. These files total ~250MB, split into many 30MB packages. After this initial launch, starting the game should be much faster as it simply needs to check the files for any updates. If it takes a long time to start even after downloading and opening the game, please let me know.

Since you ask, every time I play it takes over a minute to start. It does a lot of downloads, each time. Is there something I need to toggle to change this? In my case, I'm running on an Intel Mac Book running OSX 10.6.8.
There haven't been any bugfixes for a few weeks, so that shouldn't be an issue. Chances are that it's being slowed down by the update checker though, can you check the Console tab on the launcher and see if it slows down or stops anywhere?
Hopefully nobody's internet is worse off than mine, but the only thing I can think of that the launcher still downloads every time on "Play" is the json filelist which is used to verify the integrity of the game files. The more likely case is that your machine is slow, and the MD5-ing is just not fast by your system. The latter process could potentially take up to a minute or so, in theory.
