I just downloaded Gerson's Level Compilation, and to do the after-installation instructions properly, I have to know if I have the ignition or the non-ignition version of MBG. How can I figure out which one I have?

The easiest way is to check for the existence of certain files. If you have a file in the exe directory called "ignition," you definitely have the ignition version.

You can find a comprehensive list of differences between the two versions' file trees here: marbleblast.com/index.php/forum/general-...ignition-differences

To make things simple, can you tell me which files to look for to be able to tell? I tried going to the link that you gave, but I don't want to look through all of that. Thanks!

I gave you one example. In general, look for files with "ignition" in the name. Those are usually only in the ignition version.

When you load MBG, what does the first splash screen look like?

Monster Studios -> Ignition
RealOne Arcade -> Non-ignition

Which one is the "Garage Games" one? Is it the same as the "Real Arcade" one? I'm just making sure.

I have both the bought GG version and the one from this site, and the GG version is indeed ignition. An easy way to test this is to change the marble skin to a custom skin that should work (i.e being 256x256 pixels big); if you're on the GG version you'll see a reflection of the skybox on the marble instead of the custom skin.

Matt might mean "GarageGames one" as in the one that displays the GarageGames logo upon startup, which is the non-ignition version (ignition displays the BLAST logo).

Also, HiGuy can correct me on this, but I didn't think version affected environment mapping.

The important thing is this: in the time it's taken to post this and wait for replies, Matt, you could have just tried both sets of instructions to see which worked ...

Also, HiGuy can correct me on this, but I didn't think version affected environment mapping.

We didn't think that it would affect it either, but apparently it did. We (Matan and I) couldn't figure out how to fix it so I simply downloaded the version found on this site.

Anyone else here who bought the game from GG who can confirm that this happens to them as well?

I thought it had something to do with alpha channels and PNG color layouts?

Just saying, I've had the GG version for several years, and the environment mapping has always worked for me.

Maybe it's because the video driver defaults to D3D on one version and OpenGL on the other?

Well, my version is the Mac OS X version. I'm sure those two builds have differences. (between Mac and Windows)

EDIT: Doesn't MBG have an ignition function that would exist in only the ignition version?

console:
Code:
new IgnitionObject();

If no message follows, then it's the ignition build. If a warning comes up, it's non-ignition.

I am a programmer. Most here know me for being one of the major contributors to Marble Blast Platinum and PlatinumQuest.

Yes, that's what I meant.

I guess that means I have the non-ignition version. You may mark this thread or forum (or whatever you call it) as resolved.
