Gonna jump in and throw my 2 cents (I could be entirely wrong though, however): I think Fubar is showing that there's an update available because it can't connect to the servers due to the code that handles that in Fubar being old and unmaintained ever since it went offline in 2017(?). I assume the way it checks for new versions is it compares a version variable within the copy of Fubar to the version variable of the latest version which it gets from the site, however, because it's not able to connect to the site, it's effectively comparing the version variable to a null variable, and as we know, a defined number (or string) does not equal to null, so it thinks that there's a new version "null" when there's actually no new version.
Again I could be utterly wrong about this, but I thought it would be fun to throw my theory in

Hello!
The error is related to a patch that was placed on the MarbleBlast.com web server around mid-2016 to effectively soft-close the open Beta period while I was working to upgrade the online/leaderboard connection stack to match the new library built for PlatinumQuest. I was running into several challenges while trying to sort out the code on the Fubar backend with the upgraded library for PQ, namely with the unique library injection that PQ was performing, there were limitations in the Fubar platform that could not be accommodated. This led to Fubar being shelved indefinitely, as I could not devote enough hours to determining an appropriate solution to get the game client to connect to the upgraded MarbleBlast.com databases required for leaderboard and chat functionality.
The Fubar beta client on launch will send a request to the MarbleBlast.com site for a specific game version and if the version on the web end differs from the end user's client, the update pop-up is presented. Since the last beta version that was uploaded to the site was in the 52xxx range, users who still have the beta client will always see this pop-up on game launch.
Any of the current web admins can update this page and hard code the value to match the last available version of the beta client to resolve the issue.
I still have all of the original Fubar source code, and maybe one day I'll have some time to sit down with the current MarbleBlast.com project maintainers to see if something can be put together to bring online functionality back. There's a release candidate client with a ton of map changes, additional levels, additional content for exploration mode, skills, and achievements that I had been working on between 2015 and 2019 that never released to the greater community. Might be finally time to hand it off to someone who can bring the project to as final a state as it could be for those who've waited decades to have it.
