Announcing Short 'n' Sweet Courses

In the early part of this year, Xelna proposed to make jointly a series of 10 MBG levels, each to be completed in 30 seconds or less and featuring a variety of challenges for thought and for skill. This being a type of level which particularly attracts me and one in which Xelna's examples I admired most, we proceeded each to make 5 levels.

His inactivity on the forums and my consequent loss of patience have compelled me to release my 5 levels. Each of the levels contains 3 gems and a collection of 4-second and 6-second time travels, and has a qualification time of 30 seconds and a gold time of 10 seconds. In Xelna's style, the levels are progressively more challenging, and steeply so, with gold times to be achieved only by carefully formulated pathways and efficient skill.

Good for you making a level thread, I was wondering if you ever would.

The 5 new levels are awesome! They are difficult, but are fun and original. Some of your best levels ever. I smell a LotM nomination.

Granted, Andrew. Vote here: marbleblast.proboards78.com/index....ead=5492&page=1

Also when you finish one of the levels, in par time not necessarily in gold time, here is a records thread (still empty!): marbleblast.proboards78.com/index....ead=5486&page=1

I have to admit that I dislike levels like these that are so challenging to solve. It would be good if there were some hints/tips but there are none. I could not pass any except for the treadmill level.
Although they were extremely well made, they're not my type of levels. Way too hard.

Amazing levels Technostick, Oaky I fail to see how I can complete them yet you cannot be bothered too, I believe you are the rush type guy, who doesn't spend enough time because he is not willing to, you should try them with patience honestly, if I can do it so can you.

And yet Oaky made a set of puzzles even more difficult.

I realise that these levels are very difficult, partly because there were originally meant to be interspersed with levels by Xelna, which are always difficult. Thus I am happy to give specific hints upon request in this thread.

Trust me Dushine, I spent around an hour playing the levels with only about 2 minutes spent on the last one.
Too hard for me

Interesting, PF! I had thought the other crossbar (i.e. that facing the start) more likely to be buggy, so did not test this one.

No chameleon. It's not funny. It's not lol. It's a bump that is so illegible it's almost spam.

Please DO NOT DO THIS. Let's hope it doesn't happen again, or you'll be getting a warning. That won't be fun for anyone.

No, you had a perfectly fine reason to bump. Chameleon came in with a post full of shit and should be warned.

He came to this thread when he saw it had been posted in, and probably only looked at the date of the last post. He wrongly assumed that the thread was more current when he saw MD's post and he posted an innocent comment. (This is all speculation) I dont think he should be punished for that, he didn't give any bump greater than 4 days

Greetings to my fellow marblers. It is wonderful to be home again.

In 2008, I wrote of a juncture in my journey:

With 5 SnSCs I feel that I have seen as closely as I would want the limits of the way of level building that I made my own for the last two years. A new project comes, different from my previous approaches and indeed different from the prevalent fashions.

A few months later came a video showing something which, judging by your reaction, was new and exciting:

I continued pursuing the possibilities of this process, making a series of experiments, some of which lent themselves to being dished up as little levels.
So I present to you «the Interim Levels»: www.mediafire.com/?cpb97dpe706q8vh

Test Wheel & Wheel About

These were initial applications of my .mis generating method. Changing a few parameters allowed me to easily make two versions from the same code. I made these levels as a proof of concept, that this process could produce new structures and ideas of gameplay.

Trapeze of the Future

The next step was to envision a particular level aesthetic that would integrate my new method. With the inclusion of custom interiors, it became even more critical to explore the new possibilities that were not existent in pure interior-making. What I had been doing previously - constructing what looked like composite interiors using moving platforms - was a distinctive relic which would no longer bring much new to the table.

I gave this new level the name "of the future" as it was meant to be a foretaste of a style that I would endeavour to develop and refine. That future is now. I am here to make good on the promise that these inventions warrant.

This is mind-blowing in every sense of the word.
I got into this community years after you left, but regardless, welcome back! I've been a huge fan of your levels for quite some time, and this takes it to a new level. This means a whole lot. :D

Are you sure it's not gonna lag worse than when loading Triumvirate?

@ Buzzmusic: Nice to meet you. I am an admirer of your levels and for all you have been doing in keeping the art of Marble Blast alive. I could not wish for better.

@ Ralph: So try the levels, and see if they lag. I am really curious. www.mediafire.com/?cpb97dpe706q8vh

I joined even more years and years after you were there. But it's sooo amazing to actually get the chance to finally talk to a member of the historic community of the beginning marble blast days! It's hard to describe how awesome that is, especially since I played marble blast during those days and played your levels and followed the forum even when i wasn't a part of it. And, it's nice to see an expert come back to the community and show us how levels are done. Those look unbelievable. And, looking forward to playing multiplayer with you!

@ Eguy: Greetings. I could not be happier to see the passion that lives on in the community today. I cannot however resist mentioning my reaction when you take me for a member of the beginning days; I for one could not think of myself as first-generation. Indeed I am quite conscious of those who came before me and of their accomplishments. I suppose we were all new sometime.

About the question of loading the levels:
Everything works on the computers I currently have with me, which are 2 MacBook Pros from 2008 and 2013, and an HP laptop from 2011. I believe that there is a limit of 1024 platforms, which, if I remember correctly, is normal for the Mac version of Marble Blast. These levels do not exceed that limit. On the HP there is some lag, but that is due to the graphics card, which also cannot handle large levels well (anything above Horizon size, for instance).
It may be that one has to periodically quit and re-enter.
So, @ Ralph, could you tell me more about the problem?
console.log - is that even a thing any more nowadays?
And everyone else, how well do the levels work?
