One thing I noticed when running this over CrossOver is that enabling SSAO/DOF really kills the framerate. On my copy, I have those set to 0, as well as anisotropy and multisampling at 0. You can manually change these settings in marble/Marble Blast Graphics Extender.ini (close the game first!), and it will take effect on the next restart.

Code:
function clientcmd12dothepq() { commandToClient(LocalClientConnection, '34onthedancefloor'); }

SSAO settings lol
Anyway just play around with it, some of its settings actually correlate to your graphics card and anti aliasing so you must play with it or otherwise force disable Anti Aliasing.

Anyway this is an old game and an old engine which doesn't play well with stuff hitting it. I use GeForce 8800 GTS (5-6 years old) and Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz (also 5-6 years old) so if I can run this with little lag WITH fraps on, then you should be eating it easily.

If you are using a laptop, it's probably why (Intel HD graphics are a running joke).

A: If you're running a really really old piece of technology, basically anything running older integrated graphics, it won't work properly and will be slow.

To fix lag problems, open the .ini file in the marble directory in a text editor.

Change these settings from:

Anisotropy=16
Multisample=8
MultisampleHint=0

to

Anisotropy=0
Multisample=0
MultisampleHint=0

And then restart.

If that still doesn't make enough of an impact. Set
SSAO = 0
and DoF = 0

If your game still is running slowly, your computer is a piece of crap and shouldn't be attempting to run this in the first place.

I seem to be the only one STILL having this issue? I may just have your standard laptop, but it isn't a dinosaur. This computer was manufactured in 2010. The same year I bought it.

Specs:

Windows 7 Home Premium - Service Pack 1

Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard
Model: HP Pavilion dv5 Notebook PC
Rating: 4.4
Processor: AMD Turion(tm) II P540 Dual-Core Processor 2.40 GHz
Installed memory (RAM): 4.00 GB (3.74 GB usable)
System type: 64-bit Operating System

This is no gaming rig, but it can handle pretty much anything. Something must be wrong because I've never experienced THAT level of lag. I'm talking 5 - 9 frames per second.

I record Fraps at a good 60 fps with frame rate drops at 50 or so.

It can't be my laptop. And it's not the fact that it's OpenGL either. I play on OpenGL half the time.

It's most certainly your laptop. I would have considered that laptop medium-range in 2008. In 2013? It's a paperweight in my opinion.

Just so you know, I looked up the GPU in your computer. It's equivalent to what you would buy in a tablet today. It's pretty much cellphone quality.

Well shit...

It's just bizarre though, how can my laptop not handle a game as simple as Marble Blast yet I can run servers for minecraft, play minecraft, with way too many mods, while having skype and hamachi open, while recording with Fraps, and then play some TF 2, even games like Rct3 and Skyrim run fine...

I just don't get how I can't run a 2001 game engine with this little mod.

You're not expanding on things. Skyrim runs fine (60+ fps?) on what settings?

None of the minecraft mods should take almost any performance impact unless you're running something like what I am
. Minecraft itself is extremely easy to run.

This mod is not little. It adds effects that are about as hard on your computer to run as the game itself is.

TF2 is a game from 2007 optimized to run on computers from 2005.

Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 is a game from 2004 that was not that advanced when it was release.

I don't know why you're not understanding this? You have a slow computer, and it's not fast enough to run this mod.

I'm having some problems. Now I am on a mac, and I know this is not suppose to be on mac, I also know you can install this on mac using Crossover/Wine. I installed it on wine, and everything worked out, except when i open the graphics menu, none of the settings work. The only thing that does work is the FOV. I was told OpenGL is on by default on mac. So please help if you know what the issue is. c:

Trace has nudged quite a few times to write this up, so here goes:
Running the MarbleBlast Graphics Extender on Mac via CrossOver/WinE
Now, this process is slightly different based on whether you use CrossOver, another program, or just straight-up commandline for WinE. I assume you already know how to run MBP on WinE, so that won't be explained.
I assume you've copied the DLL file into your MBP directory, so we can just do the driver selection.

Warning: This may break other games that you use on CrossOver/WinE. It is reccommended that you use a separate WinE bottle for MarbleBlast if you do this.

CrossOver:
1. Open the Configure Menu > Manage Bottles...

2. Select the bottle you use for MBP and open the Control Panel tab.

3. Click Wine Configuration and launch it.

4. In the Wine Configuration dialog, open the Libraries panel

5. In the textbox, write exactly, without quotes: opengl32.dll and press Add.

6. A dialog may pop up warning you about changing the load order of this library. Press yes.

7. Opengl32 should appear on the list, click it and press Edit. If you don't see it, try scrolling down as it may be on the bottom.

8. A dialog should open asking about load order, select Native then Builtin and close the dialog.

9. Press Apply
10. Repeat steps 5-9 with openal32.dll if you want sound effects to work.

11. When you are finished, press Ok to close the configuration panel.
12. Reboot your bottle, and you're finished.

Wineskin
1. Open the Wineskin app inside your MBP app bundle.

2. On the dialog that appears, select Advanced.

3. Open the Tools tab.

4. Press the button for Config Utility (winecfg)

5. In the Wine Configuration dialog, open the Libraries panel

6. In the textbox, write exactly, without quotes: opengl32.dll and press Add.

7. A dialog may pop up warning you about changing the load order of this library. Press yes.

8. Opengl32 should appear on the list, click it and press Edit. If you don't see it, try scrolling down as it may be on the bottom.

9. A dialog should open asking about load order, select Native then Builtin and close the dialog.

10. Press Apply
11. Repeat steps 6-10 with openal32.dll if you want sound effects to work.

12. When you are finished, press Ok to close the configuration panel.

Command Line
1. Open your WinE command line.

2. Write exactly, without quotes: winecfg and press enter

3. In the Wine Configuration dialog, open the Libraries panel

4. In the textbox, write exactly, without quotes: opengl32.dll and press Add.

5. A dialog may pop up warning you about changing the load order of this library. Press yes.

6. Opengl32 should appear on the list, click it and press Edit. If you don't see it, try scrolling down as it may be on the bottom.

7. A dialog should open asking about load order, select Native then Builtin and close the dialog.

8. Press Apply
9. Repeat steps 4-8 with openal32.dll if you want sound effects to work.

10. When you are finished, press Ok to close the configuration panel.

HiGuy, I'm a little confused on what to do. I have Wine, but I don't understand how to open the Wine command line. Do I just open up Terminal and do something?

The mod looks amazing! Too bad it's not allowing me to play the game once I installed it. The game crashed upon start and I keep getting one error. I am using Windows 7 with the AMD GPU 13.6 Beta drivers.

wat.

What are your specs of your computer? Also please remember that this thing takes a lot of stress on your computer, so having a below-average machine will not run correctly. (Putting that out their for everyone)

Well, it said something about certain files being missing. I re-checked the marble blast folder and compared it to a newly installed one. All the files were there and I did not see any problem with them. When I started up the game, it gave me a black screen and gave me an error. I wasn't able to play it and I had to re-install marble blast for it to work again.

What file?

Also run it as administrator. Black screening is ignition, so you either have an invalid version of marble blast because your ignition files which validates the game are missing (which we can't support you anymore as its not legit) or redownload it, could have had a data transmission error (possible although unlikely)

Wait, u said it works again? I'm totally confused.

I have a valid version of Marble Blast because it was already bought and I downloaded it from my Garage Games account. I tried running it as admin a while back when it was first installed, but I remember that I got the same error every time. Currently, I don't have my PC with me so I can't check exactly what the error was.

Downloaded this and the only thing working for me is the FOV, same with Jkk's problem, except that I'm on a PC.

No lag whatsoever but no graphic effects working on MBP either. Should I be concerned?

Check the Marble Blast Graphics Extender.log file and post what it says after the line

Checking hardware caps:

Also have you tried relaunching a few times? There's some weird glitch that the first time you use it only half the effects seem to work.
