BTW, I learned I can't use MBP because I can't install Java for some reason. It always goes through the install process and tells me that it "failed to install".

(original post)

MBP won't install. I have Java 6 (I can't get 7) and before the installation really begins I get an error msg saying "Could not find the main class: com.platinumteam.mbplauncher.Main. Program will exit." The window is titled "Java Virtual Machine Launcher".

Do I need Java 7? Because it doesn't work on Vista for some reason.

Java 7 is required to run the launcher (preferably update 67). Also try to uninstall older versions of Java first and then install Java 7.

Java 7 should work fine on Vista. Are you getting errors when you try to install it? What are they?

Try downloading the "offline" version of java. It'll take longer to download, but it'll install faster. Makes it quicker to reinstall.

When installing, make sure you run as an administrator. Then make sure your sound is on, and all programs are closed. Try to disable antivirus momentarily, and re-enable after a successful install.

It's possible to run MBP without the launcher. It involves download and patching MBP manually though. You also need to run "MBExtender" in the install location for it to work.

First, uninstall ALL older versions of java. Since you are on Windows, this tool should work. Run it AFTER closing EVERYTHING ELSE out. Go into your system tray at the bottom right, and right-click and "quit" anything you many have there (including the ones hidden (<) ), as they most likely are unnecessary. Okay?
Try and run this (not tested, but should work): www.java.com/en/download/uninstallapplet.jsp
THEN take the offline installer, run it as admin (if it doesn't prompt for permission automatically), and proceed to install java. Make sure nothing else is open!
Got that? Okay. Did it work? Okay, try and run the launcher. Did it NOT work? THEN... Press the "print screen" (prtscn) key on your keyboard, immediately open up Paint, and paste (Ctrl-V). Save the image, and attach it by clicking "Reply" (not quick reply!) and "Add file", right under your message box.

Manual install would be super prone to error, and would not be automatically updated.

It didn't install. 0__0 I got the same error message I've received in the past:

[hr]
Even though it said it didn't install, I used the uninstall applet again and it said I had Java 7 Update 51. I dont know why I have that and not 67. The launcher is currently running.

According to your screenshot, it says that the installation was interrupted. Did you let it do its thing while it tried to install? Have you tried disabling your antivirus software or its live/realtime protection for a moment while you installed? It could have blocked the java installation for some strange reason.

Additionally, Java Update 51 is the (last) update that[strike] is still vulnerable to the system-eating rootkit (i.e. virus) that mauled Aayrl's system [/strike]has confirmed vulnerabilities. I'd recommend trying to upgrade it again.

Btw, sourced from: www.marbleblast.com/index.php/forum/rule...lnerabilities#117582 . Misread it slightly, but Update 51 is still unsafe.

I just let it run and if you look at the screenshot, in the system tray, I couldn't EXIT my antivirus but I disabled it.

Do you have a source on that? While it's always important to have the latest Java version, I don't think there are any vulnerabilities in 51 which were used by Aayrl's virus.

We're not even sure it was a virus at this point. Last I heard it was a rogue MSE update that detected MalwareBytes or something (Aayrl correct me if I'm wrong).

Sorry, I was rushing and misread. See above.

Anyways, if the launcher is working, can we mark this as resolved? The game only needs auto-updating capabilities and it should be fine.

Clarifying a few things:

Java 7 U51 had a security vulnerability related to certain web based applets (not related to MBP). The actual source of my dilemma was a borked MSE checksum file that was incorrectly flagging files in the root Windows directory, and in turn MSE attempted to remove core files, causing unacceptable system behavior. Java 7 U51 should be secure for the purposes of the MBP launcher, though it is strongly recommended you always install the latest update of Java. That being said, we recommend using Java 7 U67.

Jake, a few things you could try if you are still experiencing issues with updating Java to its latest version:
- Run the Java Uninstaller Applet
- Clear your Java Cache , then try the above again.
- Re-install Java 7 Update 67.

It sounds like you were able to launch the game successfully, though. Could you please confirm your MBP Installation issues have been resolved?

Thanks,
~Aayrl
