After half a year in the works, The Platinum Team is proud to announce the release of the next patch to Marble Blast Platinum, version 1.60. This patch contains cumulative updates since 1.51's release as well as plenty of new content and bugfixes. Highlights include:
- Co-Op mode: Replay all the Singleplayer levels in Co-Op mode (accessible via Multiplayer) as well as Custom levels. Major thanks to Regislian and Kalle29 for working on all new Gold, Platinum and Ultimate Times for all 281 levels.
- PlatinumQuest features: Collecting gems online will now display their point value above the marble, added Moving Objects system, Instant/IContinueToTime to Moving Platforms which allows to instantly restart them, coloring of path nodes in the Level Editor and lastly a Gravity Trigger with a new custom level on Multiplayer (Sphere Plates) to go with it.
- Level Rating: Upvote, Downvote or remain Neutral to every level online!
- Marble Blast Ultra and Gem Hunt levels are now playable offline. This includes Blast, Ultra Blast and Mega Marble support offline.
- Major engine rework means faster radar (radar mode 3 no longer lags), lots of synchronization to help smooth the Multiplayer experience and more fixes to bugs and crashes.
- Organization of the Level Select screen for Offline and Online Singleplayer for easier browsing between games and difficulties. Organization of the Server Settings screen adds new options and removes unused ones. For example, no more Fast Mode, but adds Disable Taunts.
- Level changes:
-> The Tale of the Tall Skyscraper, Frictional Ascent, Space Station and Speed Attack: Instant/IContinueToTime to problematic Moving Platforms to instantly come back.
-> The Tale of the Tall Skyscraper: Decreased Ultimate Time from 6:40 -> 5:30
-> Monster Speedway Qualifying, To The Moon and Block Party: no longer look for missing textures
-> Ultimate Tree: Checkpoints added
-> Moving Platform Monster Course (Level Packs 30-39, Level #26): Bumper and Technostick sections are fixed
-> Ring (Multiplayer, Advanced Level #11): Level problems fixed and it is fully playable. We expect to see it in Tournaments.
- Dozens of fixes relating to Online experience, some of which include but are not limited to: Spectators, Handicaps, Dedicated Servers unable to play levels with Moving Platforms, Particles crashing the game and Teams Mode not working properly
- Removed a lot of unused code and leftover images

In accordance to the Marble Blast Development Timeline, we will continue actively working on future updates to Marble Blast Platinum for another three months, and release updates more frequently. There are still numerous items on our TODO list and it is unlikely we will accept further requests from the community at this point.

If you want to help out, we are currently accepting levels for the following current and upcoming game modes:
- Co-Op, Gem Hunt, Collection, King of the Hill, Race / Singleplayer Customs, Hide and Seek, Tag
Additionally, we will accept levels for Multiplayer for this year's Xmas Event and next year's Summer Fun event.

We wish you all happy Marble Blasting,
- The Platinum Team

Just reading these update notes got me so hyped. Great job on the update! Moving Objects and Gravity Triggers will allow even more creativity and originality in custom levels. Also, being able to play multiplayer gamemodes offline will make testing multiplayer levels faster and more convenient.

At some point I'm going to make a post of gratitude and sappy appreciation for the vast amount of content that's been added to this game thanks to the community at large, but let's just look at what we have here for now.

Recently I've been online a lot more simply because I wanted to play the gem hunt levels. Now that I can do so offline, I can stay away from you monsters much more. So thanks for that feature. I also really like the new level select screen organization; the matrix-like arrangement is cleaner and is much easier to look at than before. It also includes Ultra levels now, which is highly appreciated.

The little point values that display from PQ are welcome updates that look clean and modern. Though such a small feature, it shows the types of details that are being explored in PQ, and I am thrilled to further await what other amenities we might find there. :) Moving objects absolutely expands the possibilities with custom levels dramatically, and encourages an increase in activity for level builders and experimentalists alike.

Lastly, although co-op is of little use to me, it's a fabulous addition to an already feature-rich package. The idea is creative and it gives players something else to do... and it means more people/more servers so an increase in activity there. I'm not big on the ratings, but I suppose they could be useful in determining which maps to get rid of. Of course, ratings are completely subjective, and you also have to account for those players who will go -1 on maps for little reason of substance.

Fun update, looking forward to the rest. :)

I love you, but your attitude is like that of a shrew. Your options? Take a pill or be my kill. Might I suggest that you wear a vest. Perish in class or be banished to the land of bluegrass, where dreams don't exist as you'll be eternally pissed.

Okay, I'm somewhat new to the community and I've only really played Platinum, so please don't complain that I'm asking these questions: what are Marble Blast Fubar and PlatinumQuest, exactly?

Fubar is a mod by Aayrl, PlatinumQuest (PQ) is a mod by the platinum team. Both were suposed to be released years ago, which is why people like to joke around with phrases like "PQ WHERe?". However both are currently being worked on and will be released. See: The planned timeline for Marble Blast
Both mods are inventive and unique, which is why there is hype built around them.

Yes finally, I am delighted to see that the Platinum staff has sticked to their promise of releasing 1.60 before October, it gives solid proof that they will do the same for the other updates as well. :)

Amazing additions, the level select menu is much better and convenient to use, also glad to see 2 new custom levels added to the LBs. I have yet to try co-op and play Ultra and hunt mode offline, but I am sure it will be an awesome experience. :) Thanks a lot for improving this mod yet again.

Yeah, Fubar was due 2008 and PlatinumQuest in 2010/1 :p

To expand further:

Marble Blast FUBAR, a mod by Aayrl, is set to add RPG-like elements to the mod, while taking years of experience and inspiration from Tribes and WoW to produce quality and unique environment-based levels, which are unique to anything seen in Marble Blast to do. It also has more particle emitters to further expand on its realism, easily more than any other mod. During the last few years, Aayrl has given FUBAR to hundreds of college students to playtest and give feedback, making the mod much more accessible to users who don't know Marble Blast than any other mod.
You can view videos of the mod and some particles here.

PlatinumQuest is the second mod from the Platinum Team (after MB Platinum). It's designed to be more accessible to players and give users a whole new experience with a lot of different features and gameplay mechanics, while doing its own new style of scenery. Whereas Fubar was playtested by users who never played Marble Blast before, PlatinumQuest (PQ) relies on community feedback from MB Platinum as well as feedback to custom levels released by the community to improve its gameplay. Its release has been pushed back for years, just like FUBAR, but will come in 2017.
You can view released videos here: Trailer #1 , Feature Spotlight #1 , Feature Spotlight #2 , Feature Spotlight #3 , Feature Spotlight #4 , Feature Spotlight #5 and HiGuy Vs PlatinumQuest . Progress can also be seen in the official MarbleBlast twitter account.
PlatinumQuest features have also been brought to Marble Blast Platinum to further tease users. 4 Multiplayer maps are available (need 65 achievements online to unlock unless they are enabled for all users), the features seen in 1.60, but also others like the Ice Shard in the Xmas event (which comes back later this year) and more. PlatinumQuest will eventually be released inside of Marble Blast Platinum (version 2.00) which means all the Platinum features will exist for PlatinumQuest.

Thanks for this Platinum Team. It's an amazing update, I was extremely excited for co-op, and it definitely did not disappoint - it's even more fun than I expected. I can't wait to downvote levels (Ramp Matrix) in mp either. Looking forward to the new customs.

Threefolder - Super Platform Race is amazing and creative, and plays super well too. Thanks to HiGuy especially for bugfixing like crazy last night.

Is there a requests thread? I would really like the feature in MBPU where the amount of time you have left from time travels shows up underneath your timer.

This is actually HiGuy's modification that I bundled in MBPU for the heck of it: marbleblast.com/index.php/forum/mbdk-cod...-time-modifier-clock

No idea if it'll work in MBP 1.60, and it'll almost certainly get you kicked from the leaderboards.

I need some help. Whenever I try to open the online mode, it gives me a redundancy error for the file "platinum/lbinteriors/mbg/intermediate/racetrack.dif" or something like that. I tried deleting the interiors file and it still didn't work. :o

Copy the mission files in platinum/data/multiplayer/hunt to platinum/data/missions (I would create a new folder in your custom mission folder titled 'Hunt' and put them in there). They will be accessible via your custom levels and will function appropriately.

You can also just copy the whole 'hunt' folder to your missions folder and customize it to your liking.

Glad to see 1.60 out! I have been playing with the new features and I have to say I like them! Also, it comes with its fair share of bugs, so go squash those HiGuy.

EDIT: Just realized this is the 1000th post to the "Rules & News" forum. That's a cool fact! :)

Perhaps it's time for a more official Fubar spotlight with some of the newer features .. Realized my YouTube channel hasn't seen any love in several years.

Don't forget we're looking for a few community submissions for this year's Winterfest event. If you're interested, feel free to message myself or any other member of the staff for details.

I notice that when creating a .rec demo for a level with checkpoints, the .rec will not play properly when the player holds the power button as soon as he or she went Out of Bounds after hitting any checkpoint.

Awesome Hint:

Since the Awesome Time/Score is secret, you will have to beat it in order to find out what it is. Just practice every day, and be ready to keep pressing the 'Restart' button...A LOT!

Bug alert: The clock bonus time shown on the end screen is twice as much as what it should be.
Edit: Another Bug found. In my profile on the forums, it says:
Games Played: 36
Games Won: 105
Games Lost: 66.

I think it is counting co-op games by mistake.

Also, it still counts the Ultimate Time for TTotTS in the statistics, if your time is under 6:40 but not under 5:30.

There isn't a requests thread for 1.60+ so I'll post this here.
I have two ideas for PowerUps that could go in any mod really. There probably is a mod that has a PowerUp similar to one of them, but if so, it is coincidental.
  • An inventory PowerUp that, when activated will stop the marble regardless of how fast it is moving. (So it sets the velocity to zero.)
It could also make a little particle effect that fires from the marble in the direction it was originally moving.
  • An inventory Gravity Modifier. When activated, it changes the gravity to the direction it's rotation was at when it was picked up.
