As you may know, I've got a lot going on in the music world:

Soviet Prophecy
New project ideas
Tutorials (They're coming!)

My friend is staying at my house tonight, so it inspired me to begin some new tracks I've had ideas for. It's about 2AM now; we stay up real late. So, on to the new idea:

It's a dubstep. (Duh!)If you heard the song Electrolyte, you have a taste of the new song. This new project is called Conduit Matrix, and this time it is different than all my other dub songs: It's a filthy dubstep! That's right! The basslines are wicked and I'm trying to mimic talking bass! The progress so far has an interesting beginning, psychedelic lead, and filthy wobble line! This project will also sound nothing like any other project I've done yet! Why? Me and my friend were googling a bit, and we found and downloaded 1000 free drum samples! Also, we downloaded some new VST plugins, such as the dblue_Glitch, and the Delta Force distorter.

I hope you're all excited as much as I am!

I love you, but your attitude is like that of a shrew. Your options? Take a pill or be my kill. Might I suggest that you wear a vest. Perish in class or be banished to the land of bluegrass, where dreams don't exist as you'll be eternally pissed.

So I was listening to that Electrolyte song of yours, and I couldn't help but notice... it didn't even sound like anything related to Dubstep. It sounded a whole lot more like IDM (which is totally good too), especially around 2:30 and 4:15. Those segments were amazing! The glitching was very nicely done - the breaks were nearly perfect, and while it could have used more variation in the drums (the more distorted samples the better) the general vibe of the segment was excellent... but it still wasn't dubstep. The only part of the song that remotely sounded anything like dubstep and not IDM was the segment starting at 4:43. If the entire song sounded something like that, then I'd consider calling it dubstep and not IDM.

Most importantly though, the BPM was WAY too high for a dubstep song. Dubstep always has a BPM of 140, although I have heard a bit of experimental jungle/dubstep which was around 155 BPM which sounded great.

It also sounded like all of the samples aside from a few synths were very low quality, especially the drums. If you're looking for a good drum sample/loop, I'd suggest looking up the Amen break. It's a fairly short drum sample which the genre of Jungle (which evolved into DnB) is completely revolved around. The amen break has been distorted, altered, malformed and utterly refined more times then anyone could hope to count. In more then half of the songs I've listened to (which is quite a bit, trust me) I've heard the amen break countless times. There's a few of my favorite songs which have some very notable segments which include the amen break. Allow me to put up a few links:
- 1:18
- entire song
- 0:24
You can also find the Amen break being used in pretty much any IDM/jungle song.

Really though, Electrolyte is a very good song overall (excluding the low quality samples, most notably the piano intro) and I'm definitely going to give it a second listen.

As for your next upcoming song, Conduit Matrix, I'd really suggest lowering the BPM to 140, and try a whole lot heavier bass. Electrolyte didn't really have a heavy feel to it at all, and if you're modeling this new song after it, I'd suggest... well, not doing that.

If you need any examples of good bass or anything to that extent, feel free to send me a PM or something. I'm always open for a chat about music if that's your sort of thing.

Best of luck with the new song!

IDM, not dubstep.

You might want to read my post again Ian. I pointed out that the song sounds like IDM and not dubstep, and if the rest of the song sounded more like the one part, then it'd easily fit the genre which it's supposed to be; which in this case would be dubstep.

You got my post backwards, that's all.

This changes a bit of the way I see music logically...

@Rokoshu - I get what you're saying. Yes, that is the normal BPM, however, (likewise said)I like to do a little bit of experimentation with things, thus making the BPM 160 instead of 140. After making that song I studied more into dubstep, and found that it wasn't as dubby as I thought.

Conduit Matrix, on the other hand, is or sounds nothing at all or even close to Electrolyte. I only labelled it a sequel because it's the next big dubstep song of mine.

Anywho, glad you liked the song! Thanks!

PLEASE READ: Oh my gosh. So I start the song at 2AM this morning, and I'm almost finished with it already! I almost never start and finish songs within 24 hours. I must have just been so dedicated to the song! I'm expecting around 4 minutes with this one - a lot shorter than I normally do, but still a reasonable length. I've spent a little over 5 hours on it, but I'm sure it won't be done tonight. It might, yes, but even if it does I'm not putting it up until tomorrow.

I've used 3 different, filthy wobble basses, or as you may call them: talking basses. I've included piano, two different types of drum sets, effects, and more! I hope you guys are really excited! Rokoshu, this time I know it's dubstep.

Also um, quick question. What do you render your songs in? mp3? FLAC? wav? something else?
