MBCollector and Evoker went head to head on the week 5 maps. The two of them are generally evenly matched, however it was clear that MBCollector had a fair bit of more experience as he swept the floor with a 5-0 win. However Evoker was a great opponent and he took the lead many times, despite the fact that he could never end the game with a higher score.
Maximo Center was a bit of an odd game as MBCollector crashed with 38 seconds left to go, so a 38 second rematch was played to make up for the lost time

Ramp Matrix:
MBCollector 98-75 Evoker (1-0)

Epicenter:
MBCollector 143-89 Evoker (2-0)

Maximo Center:
MBCollector 175-94 Evoker (3-0)

Par Pit:
MBCollector 110-78 Evoker (4-0)

Blast Club:
MBCollector 121-101 Evoker (5-0)

Total:
MBCollector 616-421 Evoker
195 Point Differential

Evoker went against Kalle for week 5. Initially, Evoker suffered large losses, but he pulled a lot closer to Kalle on the later maps. It sounds a lot like a reverse CylinderKnot. Fortunately, there were no crashes. Evoker did surprisingly well against Kalle on SBR, especially after a failed camp. There wasn't too much to say in the first three games, but the last two were extremely fun to watch.

Gravity Delusion (Core)
Kalle 101-50 Evoker

Super Archery Target (Concentric)
Kalle 115-56 Evoker

Witches' Cauldron (Eye of the Storm)
Kalle 92-40 Evoker

World War I Trench Battle Royale (Skate Battle Royale MBU)
Kalle 111-71 Evoker

Hor-die-zon (Horizon)
Kalle 115-98 Evoker

Total points scored:
Kalle 534 - 315 Evoker

+5 wins for Kalle, +0 for Evoker
+219 points for Kalle, -219 for Evoker

Good game, everyone!

Xedron and MBOUltimate, two incredibly skilled players, played their match today with the maps from week 6. Both players had an outstanding performance throughout the entirety of the match, and Xedron proved to be just a little bit better than his opponent. MBOUltimate did lose four matches, but on none of the games did he go down without a fight. Great game!

Ramp Matrix:
Xedron 94-101 MBOUltimate (0-1)

Epicenter:
Xedron 156-131 MBOUltimate (1-1)

Maximo Center:
Xedron 160-141 MBOUltimate (2-1)

Par Pit:
Xedron 138-100 MBOUltimate (3-1)

Blast Club:
Xedron 93-86 MBOUltimate (4-1)

Total:
Xedron 641-559 MBOUltimate

I didn't make it to the playoffs. It's been fun, and I'll still provide you with comedic highlighter-yellow walls during the playoffs. Once this is all over, see you all in the next tournament!

Macstr0yer v Nobody (Week 7)

Hands down the best match of the tournament so far. I'll admit I would have never expected the results of this match-up to be this close, but in multiplayer anything can happen. These two proved to be very even players during the games but one unexpectedly rose to the occasion...

Sacred: 112-108 Mac

With some Lee-style camping and plenty of good plays, Mac was able to comeback from being fifteen points down to create one heck of a game. Despite his nicely-timed crash at the last five seconds of the match, he managed to win the game by a very narrow amount. Nobody put up a very good fight but had some unfortunate mistakes that put him just below Mac in the end.

Vortex Effect: 103-101 Nobody

Nobody took a big early lead with some great mega marble plays and navigating around the map, but Mac never gave up and ended up bringing all he had in the final minute to suddenly put the game in jeopardy. Nobody came out on top on the final spawn by narrowly avoiding Mac's mega marble and collecting the red gems needed to win. Very tight game.

All Angles: 75-64 Mac

Some very early blues and nice moves put Mac in the lead at the start but Nobody stayed right behind him with some big blue steals. Then all of a sudden a blue appeared with ten seconds left, both players missed it but Mac grabbed it after respawning with no time left. Despite the big steal, Mac would've won by one point.

Marbleland: 157-154 Nobody

Oh man, what a game. Nobody took a huge lead with some big platinum steals and was up 80-40 with three minutes left. Then, Mac started gaining momentum. He came back after a couple of big platinum steals of his own, and was close to creating one of the biggest comebacks of all time, and with fifteen seconds left the game was tied 140-140. Noby won the final spawn barely and won by only three points.

Bowl: 101-98 Nobody

Another very good game. Mac got a good ten-point lead and kept the score like that for most of the first four minutes of the match. Then a blue appeared. Mac went for it and missed, and Noby barely grabbed it in time. This was the start of a great comeback by Noby and ended up leading by five points with five seconds left. Then Mac crashed.

The game was restarted. Mac had five seconds to collect at least three gems and possibly win. The game started. Mac was far away from the spawn, but so was Noby. The time stopped, and Mac had collected...one gem. Noby won barely in a crazy series of events.

Just to give you an idea of how close these games were altogether, only 23 points decided the games altogether.

Frostfire the Wall of Blue (Webchat): noby won his 3 games by +8
Frostfire the Wall of Blue (Webchat): mac won his 2 games by +15
Frostfire the Wall of Blue (Webchat): holy close

Nobody may have not been able to create the numbers of points able to defeat Turk and make the playoffs, but he did create one of the most exciting matches ever.

3 for Noby, 2 for Mac.

Fantastic games.

End of Regular Season

The regular season has finally ended. The standings can be viewed here: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1uQtkiqa5...U/edit#gid=328787480

Peacock, Ralph, CylinderKnot and Noby have been eliminated. Thanks for playing!

Playoffs

Link to the playoffs bracket can be found on the regular sheet (or here: challonge.com/2017MBsummertourney )

The top 12 players have a bye.

The other 8 must play a play-in game (matchups can be seen on bracket).

The better-seeded (lower-seeded) player receives first map pick; players alternate map picks until the seventh game, which will be /random'd. Once a player wins four games, the match is over, and that player is victorious. If you lose a match in the play-in or playoffs you're out.

Play-in games, maps are alternated until the fifth game, and three wins wins.

Following the play-in games, playoffs will begin directly (you may play your playoff game before all play-ins are completed if able). Playoff games are first to win 4, and map picks are alternated until the 7th game and beyond (which is random).

For playoff games, you may not pick the same map twice, across the entire playoff - so plan out which maps you'll pick! Play-in game map picks DO NOT use up that map for your playoff selections.

All play-in/playoff games should be recorded if at all possible.

Good luck to all :)

Well, I'm done. Bad mistakes early on and a randomizer pick not in my favor sealed it, although it became a very entertaining game and fun finish to my participation.

Once again I had fun as always -- thanks Frosty for everything, sacrificing his time (and not even participating) for the sake of the Hypp. I'll be back next year for more, hopefully not having to play in a foreign country this time ;)

Here's to an exciting finish to this 2017 epic, and here's to a fun next year! #2018TorneyHypp

The following is what I think, and sorry if I'm being a bit harsh and salty.

Look; I frankly don't give an Oil Slick about being eliminated from this Tournament. Thing is, I didn't even had fun on some matches[strike] (especially against Kalle who bluntly humiliated the heck out of me)[/strike], and I'm a lame player at Multiplayer, see: I didn't won any single match in the whole Tournament.

Aside that, that doesn't mean I didn't have fun in the rest of the competition. I did have fun against other players, but losing that much matches in a row... man, that was a painful experience for me. I didn't enjoyed it at all, I felt like a complete noob, and I was sick and tired of being such a lousy player everytime.
I'm being totally fair-play and I'm not raging against my opponents, but... you know... the frustration. Plus, I don't have the necessary multiplayer strategies to survive this competition (reacting efficiently to a spawn, stealing blue gems, dealing with light-year-long next spawns, caring about the lagspikes, and so on...). I mean, with 5-10, maybe 20 points ahead, I can still screw up badly and lose the goddamn match! That happens ALL-THE-TIME!

And you all know losing too much multiplayer matches can severely damage your general ranking, and you should know that, because of PQ's easiness progressively destroying it, I'm working to pass sub #80, so, with the number of lost matches (about 30 matches), it will be ridiculously impossible for me.

Nonetheless, a huge big up to Frosty who's been organizing this Tournament, putting up with me whining around and being there when I didn't felt good (almost all the time), and keeping the match hype at its maximum no matter what happens.

But, for a custom level maker like me, Multiplayer Tournaments are not made for me in any way.

Good luck to the remaining players, and as for my case:

I probably will NOT be coming back in another Multiplayer Tournament again. (Even if Frosty proposes me to do it, I will gently decline)

You forget a thousand things everyday. Make sure Marble Blast isn't one of 'em.

You didn't lose; you learned. Even though I snagged 4 wins, I still didn't snag 31 of the other possibilities to win. If you don't win, think about what possibly went wrong. A few things that I learned from my losses:

Don't get too close to the trim in the middle of Blast Club. Your opponent can mess up your Super Jump with a blast.
Camping is a double-edged sword. I lost to Lichable on Sac-red because he got a double spawn while I was on the other side of the map.
Winning the first two games still means that you might not win the next three.
It's one thing to get to a spawn first. It's another to get there with enough control. I often suffered from excelling in the former but not the latter.
Stay calm! Take deep breaths when you are ahead. A fast heartbeat is enough to destroy the entire game for you.

PQ changed how multiplayer rating works. Losing doesn't take away any rating; it generally gives you less. The rating doesn't really mean much because it's a really new system, and someone who is level 1 can easily own someone who is level 15. That happened to me.

One thing you have to keep in mind is that many of these players have years of gem-hunting experience, especially with other players. All that really matters in the end is that you gave it your best, and you learned something from this. I know that you say that you won't participate again, but that's okay. I found it fun to have close games, even when I was not in the lead. Everyone in my group was better than I was, but I gave it my best, and I'm sure you did, too.

(By the way, I'm not trying to convince you to join the next tournament. I'm just supplying some words of wisdom to help you.)

The first time I was at a tournament IRL I lost every single match. I got destroyed 6-0 in pools and got eliminated from the tournament, but I didn't get discouraged, I came back and tried to do better. At the end of the day we all have different reasons for playing comptetitively, but if the only thing you like is winning, then you're gonna have a bad time, no one wins everything. Take this as you will.

Overall, while my ending to the tournament was a bit disappointing I've learned a lot from last year and this years competitions. The system used was a lot easier this year then whatever that Buchholz thingy was last year and all.

Good luck to everyone going forward in the playoffs.

I didn't make it as far as last year this time but I can't say I didn't have fun. I had some very fun and close matches this time. Even and the match that eliminated me was close. HUGE thank you to Frosty for hosting another tournament for the community and good luck to everyone still in it.

The tournament is over for me after loosing against Rosie, but I think I had a lot of fun this year playing the tournament : close matches, friendly opponents etc...
Thanks to frosty for the organisation and the time he spent doing everything so that the competition could go one without any problem.
And just a word to Ralph, my first mp tournament was 3 or 4 years ago (in 2014 or 2015 I think) and I got completely destroyed by players like RC, and I also felt frustrated and like a complete noob even though I was playing the game for 3 years already. I just practiced a bit, and even if I today I just play occasionnally the bit of practice paid and I managed to go futher in the competition, just don't give up =)
Good luck to those who are still in the game!

That's me finished for the year. Ggs to all I have played, I enjoyed every match and learnt a lot from the tournament. The system used this year was certainly better than last year's, a much larger proportion of matches were close leading to fun games and plenty of HYPE. Looking forward to next year :)

Thanks to Frosty for organising another tourney and good luck to all those still participating.

GGs, Xedron. 4-1 is telling, not even close in the end. GL those of you who are left, esp hP since I have my bets on you winning the whole thing.

I got my ass kicked. That's not what matters. I met every goal I wanted to meet this year, I can't regret anything this tourney. It's really been a blast. Btw perks, no hard feelings, you didn't mean it. I look forward to seeing the final two matches.

I'm just gonna say what everyone else said, huge thanks to Frostfire for organizing this tournament through lots of frustration following last year, you are one of the reasons this community is still thriving and having a great time playing one of the best games ever.

GL to Perks and Higuy/Rosie in the finals.

I'll repeat what Xedron said. I got my ass kicked.
Fault Line was incredibly stupid and I basically gave up after Perks got three blues in the first 10 seconds, but whatever. It was doomed to fail. :P

I didn't expect to make it as far as the finals, and cheers to [strike]Frostfire for rigging the tournament so I'd get the top seed[/strike] everyone who I battled in the playoffs. There were some really tough games you all played, so very nice job to Lichable, MBC, and HiGuy.
Kudos to Frostfire for setting up and managing another tournament. I had a blast!

And of course, I can't go away without saying congratulations to hPerks for winning the tournament! You played a fantastic match and you deserve the title. I'll get the trophy next year. :)

Narcissism alert. I denied hPerks his clean sweep.

Congratulations on winning the 2017 Summer Gem Hunt Tournament, hPerks! Do you have any wise words for the other competitors and audience to hear?

"Yes, I do."

Tell us a few words, then! Tell us something that you want everyone to learn for the next tournament.
