The tournament is for fun, not for winning - even if you don't make the playoffs, you should follow through and finish your matches

u r rite ;-;

Thanks for the support guys. I didn't think it would be a big deal with me just walking away lol. I guess I'll stick out the matches, and who knows, maybe will make the playoffs :P

Alright, the games played today may very well be the best games of Marble Blast ever played.

--

RC vs. Frostfire

Map: Triumvirate (Home)
Score: 88 (RC) - 65 (Frostfire)
Overall: 1-0 RC

I chose Triumvirate not because it's a map I like, but because it defies everything about Frostfire's much more aggresive playing style. Here, Frosty couldn't take advantage of his latency and MMing the same way that he could on (for example) Architecture. Here, my decisions payed off. Throughout the course of the game, I maintained a 10-20 point lead, taking most of the blues and reds, though Frosty did hang on a lot more than I thought he would. Though I did win this game, I did sense that future matches would be a struggle.

--

Map: Architecture (Away)
Score: 128 (RC) - 144 (Frostfire)
Overall: 1-1

Ah, I can still remember the times that I could beat Frosty on Architecture. Sadly, those days are no more, as he has easily become the best player in the community at this map. Booping and MMing me every chance he got, while also stealing most of the blues, there was really no chance from the start for me to beat him. I tried to make up for my lack of blue-stealing aptitude (did I really just say that?) and tried to pick up all of the reds, but it proved to be completely counter-productive, as in the end, Frosty beat me by 16 solid points. Ouch.

--

Map: Sprawl (Home)
Score: 173 (RC) - 144 (Frostfire)
Overall: 2-1 RC

To make up for the points I lost on Architecture, I chose my flagship map. Though I got off to a good start, Frosty quickly came back and slowly started to reel me in; around the one minute mark, Frosty was within 10 points from me, and I realized I was in dangerous territory. Luckily, I was able to grow my lead up again, and I beat Frosty by 29 points. Genuinely shaken and honestly scared, I knew I had to really hope for a good map in the randomizer.

--

Map: Ziggurat (Frostfire)
Score: 81 (RC) - 84 - (Frostfire)
Overall: 2-2

After Frosty saw my sad performance vs. MBK, he knew that I really sucked at this map. He stole every single blue, and I had to make up for that by picking up reds and yellows like crazy. We were tied going into the last few seconds, until I made a huge mistake against the clock and missed my opportunity to beat Frosty after hitting one of Zigg's infamous ramps, though Frosty really did deserve this win and honestly should've won by more (I did get lucky with several spawns). I knew that I needed a really good map from the Randomizer.

--

Map: Epicenter (Randomizer)
Score: 124 (RC) - 124 (Frostfire)
Overall: 2-2

Welcome to the first tie of the tournament, people. I do have a bit of a reputation of being trolled by the randomizer, and today was no exception; It chose my worst and second least favorite map. Hanging on (and camping) for dear life, Frosty had a a good lead until the last minute or so, when I started to slowly come back. I was a few points behind Frosty in the last 10 seconds when I chose a very quick gem route hoping the frosty wouldn't pick anything else up, and sure enough, he didn't. Easily the most intense match I've ever played and one of the most intense matches that has probably ever been played.

--

Map: Eye of the Storm (Randomizer)
Score: 95 (RC)- 86 (Frostfire)
Overall: 3-2 (RC) [GAME]

GAHHHHHHHH WHYYYYYYY UAGGHGHGHHGH

The randomizer, after choosing my worst map, chose my most hated map. I honestly thought this was the end for me, as I lag like crazy here and and rarely ever win. I certainly seemed that way after Frosty stole most of the blues, though I did manage to iron out a 9 point win, helped by a blue I nicked. Wow.

--

The games played today were really just extraordinary, and I highly suggest that you watch them; I hope they're as entertaining for you as they were for me and Frost. Though the maps were not at all in my favor today, the matches were still just about as good as Marble Blast gets, and Frosty played insanely well. I look forward to playing more games in the future!

Only one more match remains in the 4th round (mister otter VS pro marbler) - we just had

Regislian (home) vs Rozi (away)

Worth noting there were many (questionable) crashes throughout the matches.

Map: Epicenter (Regi)
Score: 149 (Regi) - 101 (Rozi)
Overall: 1-0 Regi

Rozi hung in there for quite a while, but Regi simply was too much for Rozi on his favorite map. Regi won the game 9-0 on blues; meaning that if there hadn't been a single blue, Regi would've won by 3 rather than 48!

Map: Marble it Up! (Rozi)
Score: 112 (Regi) - 79 (Rozi)
Overall: 2-0 Regi

Once again, Regi dominated. Nothing else to say.

Map: Basic Agility Course (Regi)
Score: 123 (Regi - 93 (Rozi)
Overall: 3-0 Regi Wins

For a third time Regi dominated. However, it's worth saying here that Rozi put up more of a fight than the score shows. He game within 10 with just a minute left, although Regi quickly stomped the spark out with a blue spawn.

Good game guys!

(Positions: Rozi: 9th, Regi: 3rd)

The match of RC vs Frostfire is available on YouTube:

I would say those are the best and most enjoyable multiplayer games ever played.
Purely exciting, "how on earth can they collect gems that fast", "what da fuq did I just watch" and "no freakin way I quit" moments are absolutely guaranteed. :D

Regislian (home) vs Frostfire (Away)

Map: Epicenter (Regi)
Score: 137-134 (Regi)
Overall: 1-0 Regi

An expected choise by Regi as the first pick. For the first minutes it looked like a confident win by Regi; he even had a lead of well over 20 points during the middle of the match. But Frosty started a comeback and even had a slight lead with little more than one minute left on the clock. The last minute was very intense, but Regi had the lead pretty much the whole time. With only five seconds left on the clock Frosty took two yellow gems, almost making it look like he was gonna steal the win. But it wasn't quite enough and Regi won anyway. vgg

Map: Achi (Frosty)
Score: 155-115 (Frosty)
Overall: 1-1

Frosty's counterpick was also expected. Even though he outplayed RC on this map, it was dead even for the first three minutes. In the last two Frosty started to pull away and the lead just kept growing until the match was over.

Map: Basic agility course (Regi)
Score: 126-105 (Frosty)
Overall: 2-1 (Frosty)

Another of Regi's standard choises. Regi got the early lead here but lost it with about two minutes left. Frosty quickly expanded that lead and kept it until it was over.

Map: Zenith
Score: 126-91
Overall:3-1 Frosty wins

Not too much to say here, Frosty got an early lead and kept it all the way through. Regi did have a few unlucky moments though, like a painful blue miss towards the end of the match.

Since nobody actually did a write up on the FIRST match of the round, RC vs Kalle, I'll go ahead and do it now (could somebody do Lee VS Eguy as well?)

RC vs Kalle

Map: Sprawl (RC)
Score: 213-109 (RC)
Overall: 1-0 RC

Not much to say about this one, RC simply is better on this map. Kalle only reached 3 spawns before RC.

Map: Bowl (Kalle)
Score: 135-96 (RC)
Overall: 2-0 RC

This one was a better game, with Kalle down by 20 for most of the match (RC pulled away right near the end). Both players had numerous bounce-over-the-gem mistakes.

Map: Spires (RC)
Score: 108-97 (RC)
Overall: 3-0 RC wins

Once again RC's second map choice nearly led to a loss (as on Ziggy against MBK). Apparently he didn't know that Spires is one of Kalle's stronger maps. It was very, very even until about 45 seconds left, when RC snagged an entire spawn and managed to pull away by 10. Kalle got the next blue but the difference was still too much for him to make back up. Worth a view on Imp's youtube channel.

Good game guys!

We had a double match today. First...

MBK vs Rozi

Map: Promontory (MBK)
Score: 110-81 MBK
Total Score: 1-0 MBK

MBK won himself a solid victory on his favorite map. He took an early lead of about 30 points and held it throughout the game.

Map: Bowl (Rozi)
Score: 115-98 MBK
Total Score: 2-0 MBK

This one was quite even for the first 2/3 of the game, neither player pulling more than 6 points (= 3 gems on Bowl) away from the other until a blue spawn in which MBK swallowed three yellows and the blue to take the lead by 13. The difference was too much for Rozi to pull back.

Map: Skate Battle Royale (MBK)
Score: 81-80 Rozi
Total Score: 2-1 MBK

I'm pretty sure I wasn't the only person who was shocked by this. Less of the result, more of the way Rozi played - it was too bad this one wasn't on video because Rozi simply caught fire at the start of this game and held it for not only this one but the rest of the games in the match. He was up by 10-15 points (a lot on SBR) for very nearly the entire game. With ten seconds left a high-point blue spawn spawned and MBK snagged almost all of it, pulling from down 11 to down 1. He and Rozi were both racing for the final red (not sure who would've reached it first) when time ran out and Rozi managed to hang on to his once-massive lead.

Map: Marble City (Rozi)
Score: 109-107 MBK
Total Score: 3-1 MBK wins

Another incredible performance from Rozi. He was up by about 10 points for the first half of the game. Using a blue spawn to fuel himself, MBK turned on the focus and came back, taking a lead of 5-10 points with 45 seconds left. At this point I thought Rozi was a goner but he fought back and it was a tie game with less than 10 seconds to go. The next spawn was the one under the main tower with the 5-point straight run (the yellow and yellow/red). Both players immediately went for it - the difference was that Rozi had nothing while MBK had a Super Speed. He collected all 5 points to take the lead and sail OOB. Rozi collected all but one of the rest of the gems in the batch (the remaining gem was a red), but there wasn't enough time left for him to come back from the blow.

Great game guys - especially the last two! Marble City was intense all through and SBR had an insane ending.

As mentioned above there were two matches today. The second was just as, if not more, exciting than the first. (this one can be viewed on imp's twitch channel)

Lichable vs Jeff

Map: Marble Agility Course (Lichable)
Score: 113-67 Lichable
Total Score: 1-0 Lichable

Nothing to say here, the score speaks for itself. Jeff said afterwards to have experienced framerate (FPS) issues.

Map: Basic Agility Course (Jeff)
Score: 101-98 Lichable
Total Score: 2-0 Lichable

I'll start this one out by stating that Jeff a) was in the lead for almost the entire game, by 5-10 points and b) informed us afterwards that, to reduce lag, he was playing the level without radar on. Long story short, this decision backfired completely at the last spawn, with 5 seconds left, as he was right next to it. Not realizing that it had spawned right below him he rolled off in the wrong direction to grab a super jump, giving Lichable time to collect a couple gems and seal the victory. You can see the painfulness of the decision on imp's channel.

Map: Bowl
Score: 94-93 Lichable
Total Score: 3-0 Lichable wins

This game was too insane to describe. Jeff was down by about 10 points for almost the entire game but came back right at the end. With less than 5 seconds left Lichable picked up the last gem of a spawn to take the lead by 1, and suddenly - double spawn. Both Jeff and Lichie were headed in the wrong direction. They both wheeled themselves around as quickly as possible and both managed to grab one gem. Unfortunately for Jeff this meant that Lichie still held the lead by 1 point. Jeff was headed for another yellow when time ran out (whilst Lichie was rolling away from the spawn). An incredibly intense finish to an awesome game.

Great match guys!

Sidenote: Jeff has been eliminated from playoff contention; however he will still participate in Round 6 of the Swiss Rounds (and maybe spoil somebody's playoff hopes... hehehe)

Announcing a slight time frame change: As soon as the sixth round is completed, playoffs will be drawn. As soon as the first playoff round has been completed, semis will be drawn. As soon as the semis are completed, finals will be drawn.

There is STILL A TWO-WEEK LIMIT FROM THE TIME OF THE DRAWING. If you fail to respect, it will result in a loss and thus an elimination, since the playoffs are single-elimination.

You can use the playoff bracket (link in first post) to check on the exact time frame you have to finish your match.

This is in light of the Summer Tournament, which is planned to start around the endtime of this one (Start of July).

Regislian (Home) vs Eguy (Away)
(video available on my Twitch channel)

Map: Epicenter
Chosen By: Regislian
Score: 148-112 Regislian
Total Score: 1-0 Regislian

Regi pulls out his golden map as usual, and managed to ace 8 out of 8 blues (Worth to note that Eguy was just a second behind on most of these) and safely took the win.

Map: Vortex Effect
Chosen By: Eguy
Score: 102-92 Eguy
Total Score: 1-1 Eguy

Regi took a small lead since the beginning of the game but struggled to widen the gap. Eguy stayed close behind and managed to comeback in the last 30 seconds.

Map: Basic Agility Course
Chosen By: Regislian
Score: 124-116 Eguy
Total Score: 2-1 Eguy

Regi picked yet another usual map, but it proved to backfire as Eguy took a 10-20 point lead from the beginning and maintained it really well. At the last 20 seconds Regi pulled a comeback and scores were even, but then a blue spawn appeared and both players rushed to it as fast as possible, but it happened the Eguy was a tick faster and took the blue. Then not enough time was left for Regi to flip the tide again.

Map: Tilo
Chosen By: Eguy
Score: 113-96 Eguy
Total Score: 3-1 Eguy wins

Eguy chose another map that Regi isn't too strong at. Eguy clearly knows his way through the level and kept a 20 point lead throughout the game.

Very good games, BAC was clearly the turning point of the match and things could've been the other way round if it wasn't for that blue.

Rozi (Home) vs Kalle29 (Away)

Map: Marble It Up!
Chosen by: Rozi.
Score 102-54 Kalle29
Total Score: 1-0 Kalle29

This first pick of Rozi backfired; Kalle29 pretty much dominated throughout.

Map: Skate Battle Royale.
Chosen by: Kalle29.
Score: 87-64 Kalle29.
Total Score: 2-0 Kalle29.

One of Kalle's favorites, although closer/more exciting than previous match.

Map: Marble City.
Chosen by: Rozi
Score: 127-85 Kalle29.
Total Score: 3-0 Kalle29.

Rozi's second pick, in which Kalle29 again, took a lead early on and kept on increasing that lead.

Good games, guys!

Quick note,

I may have to forfeit the tournament, as I've had a RAID failure and need to send my computer back to Asus which could take several weeks (considering they can actually fix the problem).

Will keep you posted.

:( terrible news RC. Hopefully they'll be able to fix it up as quickly as possible.
Note: please let us know whether you're forfeiting or not before the playoffs are drawn. If you do forfeit it will affect the seedings.

Pro Marbler (away) vs Jeff (home)

map: Bowl (Jeff)
Score: 115-80 Jeff
Total: 1-0 Jeff

A sneaky choise by Jeff as this map causes Pro to lag. Jeff got the lead pretty early on and didn't let it go.

Map: Marble it up! (Pro)
Score: 105-97 (Jeff)
Total: 2-0 Jeff

A more exciting match. Pro got the early lead and was looking very strong for a while. But a few blue steals and better plays on Jeff's part made it an even game. During the later half of the game Jeff started to pull away and got a neat 25pt lead for a short time. Towards the end Pro started to comeback, though he didn't have enough time for a full comeback so Jeff won it.

Map: Zenith (Jeff)
Score: 96-73 (Jeff)
Total: 3-0 Jeff wins

Just like on bowl Jeff got the early lead and kept it throughout the game. It had some bittersweet missed skillshots and is worthy of a watch.

The Swiss Rounds are officially over, and the Playoffs have begun! Congratulations to those who made it:
1. RC
2. Frostfire
3. Eguy
4. MBK
5. Kalle
6. Regislian
7. J@ckRB
8. Lichable
And to those who didn't - better luck next time. Thanks to Rozi, Lee Zi Xian, Pro Marbler and Jeff for playing through the tournament fully, even though they were unable to make the playoffs.

You can view the bracket HERE: challonge.com/MB1v1Playoffs

This will let you know what the matchups are and who you're playing. The time frame is also expressed above each round. "Round Cutoff" is the date by which you must play your match.

Looking forward to some good playoff matches, and good luck to all!

P.S. you can review the main post for playoff differences in depth, but the main feature is playoff games are no longer best of 5. Quarterfinals and Semis are best of 7, Finals are best of 9. The LOWER seed will be home for all matches.

This concludes my theory that I am lousy at Multiplayer hunt. :C But agreed, more free time, less fighting over internets!

Might as well writeup then. Something to do when I have more important stuff to do :P [Writeups in spoilers so this post isn't massive]

RC (Home) vs. J@ckrb (Away)
Warning: Spoiler!

First tournament match was also played.
J@ckrb (Home) vs. Frostfire (Away)
Warning: Spoiler!

Well, that's me out. Naturally disappointed, but still upbeat for the future. Definitely a fun experience and I have improved a lot (gave me motivation to practice as well). Besides, there's always next time for [strike]revenge[/strike] more fun? :P
