Hello all. This thread will function both as the sign-up thread and as the write-up/video thread, where all match write-ups and videos should be posted.
To sign up, post below telling me to sign you up.
Players of all levels of experience/ability are welcome to join.
The last date you are still able to sign up is Friday, July 1. After that signups are closed and the tournament will begin.
The tournament will be divided into the Swiss Rounds and the Playoffs.
Time Frame
The Swiss Rounds consist of five weeks of play. No one is eliminated until after these five weeks. The first round will begin July 2; the last one will end August 5. You will need to play one match per week, so if you are going on any multi-week vacations with no access to Marble Blast, then you won't be able to participate.
Not all players will move from the Swiss Rounds to the Playoffs, some will be eliminated.
If you do make it to the Playoffs, then you will play 1-4 more games, depending on how well you do. Playoff time frames are as follows:
First round, August 6-13
Second round, August 13-20
Third round (finals if we have fewer than 20 players participating in total), August 20-27
Fourth round (finals if 20 or more players total), August 27-September 2
The playoffs begin immediately after the Swiss Rounds.
Advancing from Swiss to Playoffs
After the Swiss Rounds end, 16 players make the playoffs, and the rest get eliminated.
Crashing/Ping Rules
No exceptions to be made for ping, EVER. Period. Unfortunately it is just one of those things.
Crashes should be worked out between the players in the match. The player who didn't crash may choose whether to redo the match or take the win/loss, depending on which position they were in. Please be a good sport.
Matches
All matches MUST be played on either tsuf, thistle, or a neutral server (neither of the players in the match may host). Decide on the best server based on lag needs.
> Matches in the Swiss Rounds will be First to 3 wins.
> Matches in the Playoffs will be First to 4 wins.
> The Playoff Final will be First to 5 wins.
Players will alternate map choice. If no winner has been decided after each player has picked 2 maps (3 in playoffs, 4 in playoff final) the randomizer will be used to pick maps until one player wins. Maps MAY NOT BE PLAYED TWICE.
All official maps are allowed with the exceptions of Nukesweeper Revisited and the PQ Maps (Nadir, Marbleland, Lupus and Maximo Center). No customs.
The player with FEWER points will be the home player and get to select the first map. If the players have even scores, then use HiGuy's /random command to select home/away. Announce in GLOBAL CHAT that player x is 1 and player y is 2. Then do the /random, and whoever it chooses is home. (the random numbers appear in the chatlog).
In the playoffs, the WORSE SEED (higher number seed) will be the home player.
MAKE SURE TO RECORD THE SCORES OF YOUR MATCH. A neutral player will most likely be recording your match, but if one isn't, you MUST RECORD THE SCORES. They are needed for Points Differential.
Start/End of Rounds
All rounds will begin at 9am EST (1 pm GMT) on each Saturday, beginning July 2. Each round will end as the next one begins. I will be on Webchat at this time each Saturday, announcing live the next round's matchups
Extra Info
If you have any questions please ask. For those of you who want to know exactly how the swiss rounds work... everything is 1v1. You will, each round, be matched up with the player who is 'closest to your ability' based ONLY on how well you have done so far in the tournament. The computer judges this, and you may not play the same opponent twice, so sometimes you may not actually get the player who is closest to your ability – but overall your matches should get closer and closer as the rounds go on.
Playoffs are 1v1 single elimination, which means if you lose a match, you're out. The best seed from the Swiss Rounds plays the worst seed (that survived the Swiss Rounds – there may be players that did worse that didn't qualify for the playoffs), next best seed plays next worst seed and so on, following traditional seeding rules.
Another note: if we have an odd number of players total, you have a chance of getting a bye in the swiss rounds. You won't receive more than one bye, and byes count as wins - so if you don't see your name on the list of the round's matchups, it means you got a bye.
Good luck to all!
